Dan McCarthys work consists mainly of skeletons of humans, animals and dinosaurs but he also does pieces which include buildings in the middle of the night with a light on and some early work with telephone wires and pole. He studied in Boston (The School of the Museum of Fine Arts)where he attended many different classes like drawing, painting, animation, etching, lithography and screen printing but it was the screen printing that really took his fancy. He started his work playing around with telephone wires and poles with solid backgrounds because he wanted to use something that was generally overlooked. He uses the skeletons to represent death and tries to explore to concept of death and rebirth. His posters and prints are all screen printed, but start with the usual pencil drawing that are then scanned into photoshop. He uses a lot of layering and tries not to use more than 4 or 5 colour in a piece of work.
